Why does God love us?

Why does a square have four sides? Because it in the very nature of a square to have four sides. If the shape had anything other than four sides, it would not be a square. Four sides are necessary for a square to be a square.

1 John 4:8

Why does God love us? Because it in the very nature of God to love. If he didn’t love us, he would not be God. Loving us is a necessary attribute for God to be God.

Not for anything that we are, that’s for sure. Romans 5:10 says we were God’s enemies; powerless, ungodly sinners (Romans 5:6-8). He is gracious. He is kind. He loves us because of who he is. Not for our sake, but for his sake.

God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8
